Semester portfolio and the final of four Course Assignments for Semester 1 just handed in, and off we go for another semester! This time a subject with which I am fairly familiar; screen design.

During this week we will look at some key terms, like the Internet, HTML, search engines and web browsers. We will also take a look at the role of the web designer. The ten principles of effective web design form a solid foundation for the rest of the course.

Upon completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • Explain what the Internet is.
  • Understand what the purpose of the Internet is.
  • Recognise the role of the web designer.
  • Explain what HTML files, web browsers and search engines are.
  • Discuss the ten principles of effective web design.

I have just finished watching the intro video and will be diving into the mandatory resources in a minute, but I have noticed already that this subject will provide a long-needed break for me. I know the ins and outs of the technical aspects of web design, and it’s mainly the design bit that will provide a challenge. This means that I will get a chance to catch up on the not yet posted Lesson tasks from semester 1, which is long due but sadly has been neglected. You’ll probably grow tired from reading this, but juggling this study along with a full-time job, family obligations, and several volunteer tasks — well, it’s demanding! I am considering letting some of my volunteering tasks rest so that I won’t constantly excuse myself for not having put enough time and effort into the assignments.
